How to restore architectural woodwork

We work extensively with what's known as 'architectural woodwork', providing wood restoration services to polish and restore staircases, doors, windows, dado rails and paneling. Designed for domestic and commercial environments, our service covers period houses, hotels and offices.

Here we answer some of the commonly asked questions regarding architectural woodwork:

What are some of the key considerations with this type of wood restoration?

• Full repairs - One decision to make is whether to completely repair, strip and re-polish architectural woodwork, including staircases, doors, windows, dado rails and paneling.

• Polishing and wood finishes - There are a range of polishes, waxes, oils and modern finishes we can use to skillfully achieve appearances that will complement the interiors of period and new properties or premises.

• Minor repairs - It is also possible to simply touch-up, revive and wax polish the existing surfaces if that is all that is required.

Do you work in period properties?

Yes. We have extensive experience restoring period property woodwork. When restoring woodwork in period properties we are often required to blend-in new woodwork with existing period timbers, which requires new timbers to be distressed and aged in a thoughtful and appropriate manner.
